Skiing
1. Mt St Hut Ski Area
Voted New Zealand's Best Ski Resort for 8 years in a row, Mt Hutt ski area boasts wide-open terrain for all ski and snowboard ability levels.
2. Roundhill Ski Area
Roundhill Ski Area is a family owned ski area with breathtaking views of Lake Tekapo and the Southern Alps.
Note: this ski area is not very beginner friendly since it doesn't have much beginner ski areas,
so if you want to ski here, just make sure that you have some experience in skiing.
3. Broken River Ski Area
Broken River is a club skifield in South Island, New Zealand. Run by the Broken River Ski Club, it is located at about 110 km (68 mi) from Christchurch.
The skifield claims to often have the longest ski season anywhere in Australasia. Also, by connecting with Craigieburn Valley, it claims to have the largest skiiable area in New Zealand.
Surfing
1. Sumner Beach
The Sumner Beach is a good place for surfers of all skill levels. Even if you don't go surfing at that beach, the view is still very nice!
2. Taylors Mistake
Taylors Mistake is a very popular beach in Christchurch and home to some of the best surf in the city.
Taylors Mistake is a beach break on a sandy beach with both right and left-handers on offer.
Taylors can produce a really powerful wave, with heaps of speed off the drop and barrels when offshore.
This beach is suitable for surfers of all skill levels.
3. New Brighton Pier
New Brighton is one of Christchurch's local surfing beaches. Its a long beach with many peaks down
